Promoting a Healthy School Environment
Birthday parties and holiday celebrations at school provide a unique opportunity to help make healthful eating fun and exciting for children. Liberty Elementary has had the wonderful opportunity to have nutrition education available to all students this year through some grant funding and as a result we would like to encourage Healthy Celebrations.
If you are looking for something to bring instead of cupcakes, cookies, and candy, try these ideas for healthier celebrations:
Low-fat flavored milk, 100% juice, sparkling punch or flavored water
Fresh fruit, fruit and cheese kabobs, or fruit with low-fat whipped topping
Dried fruit (raisins, banana chips) or 100% fruit snacks
Whole-grain crackers with cheese
Pretzels, popcorn, or graham crackers
Hot pretzels
Low-fat pudding or squeezable yogurt
Granola bars
